#MMC100 Trophy Tour Stop 10: Swift Current, Saskatchewan
The Canadian Hockey League’s 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup celebrations continued this past week in Swift Current, the tenth stop on a season long tour visiting 17 CHL communities in eight different provinces.
Swift Current was the first stop in the province of Saskatchewan that will see plenty of the Memorial Cup in the coming months including an upcoming tour visit in Regina on February 18 leading up to the centennial celebration at the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup in the Queen City this May.
One of the CHL’s smallest communities, Swift Current is home of the Western Hockey League’s Broncos who hoisted the Memorial Cup back in 1989.
The Broncos are once again in contention and put their talent on display before a sold out crowd at Credit Union iPlex and a national television audience as part of Sportsnet’s Saturday Showcase defeating the rival Pats with the prestigious trophy in the building.
The Memorial Cup had a full schedule while in town providing fans the opportunity to see the trophy up close. The team surprised minor hockey players, traveled to area schools, visited the retirement community, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56.
