#MMC100 Trophy Tour Stop 15: Owen Sound, Ontario

The Canadian Hockey League’s 100th Mastercard Memorial Cup celebrations continued this past week in Owen Sound, the 15th stop on a season long tour visiting 17 CHL communities in eight different provinces.

Home of the Ontario Hockey League’s Attack, Owen Sound is the league’s smallest community but demonstrated enormous hospitality sharing the Memorial Cup with so many different people and partners in the city and surrounding area.

The prestigious trophy visited local schools including Paisley Central where students had written letters of thanks to members of the Canadian Forces.  It stopped for photos at scenic Inglis Falls and the iconic Chi-Cheemaun, spent time with Owen Sound Police and Fire Departments, and visited Canadian Forces personnel in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre.  The Memorial Cup was also present at Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 6, for a special cheque presentation made by the Attack for over $10,000 from funds raised through their Military Appreciation Jersey Auction.

The Memorial Cup also reunited with family members of past winners including Owen Sound Police’s Detective Daniels whose father Duncan Daniels was a member of the 1946 champion Winnipeg Monarchs.  Peggy Bell, the daughter of Martin Lauder, and Carol Anne Jefferson, the daughter of Benny Grant, were recognized on ice prior to the Attack’s Saturday Showcase game on Sportsnet.  Their fathers were members of the 1927 champion Owen Sound Greys.
